Dear Mount Pleasant Community Members,
The City of Vancouver is pleased to invite you to participate on the Mount Pleasant Heritage Working Group (MPHWG). This group will work with city staff and consultants to identify places of historic significance in Mount Pleasant. This will involve employing a full range of heritage values (beyond simply ‘architectural merit’) that expand our understanding of historic places. The objective of this project is to better understand, manage, and celebrate the heritage value of the historic places in Mount Pleasant.
Tuesday, January 29
7:00 to 9:00 PM
Native Education College
285 East 5th Avenue
Later meetings will involve finding places in Mount Pleasant that best represent those themes, and strategies to best manage and celebrate those themes and places.
The MPHWG will assist by providing a diversity of viewpoints, knowledge, and experience to the project. The following Terms of Reference explain the project, the role of the Working Group, and the time commitments involved.
Please let us know by Monday, January 21st or earlier regarding your interest in joining the Working Group. Attendance at a public open house – where other residents of Mount Pleasant can find out about these heritage themes and places and offer comments (e.g., make additions to the list) – scheduled for February 19 is expected for participants.
Thank you very much for your consideration and I look forward hearing from you.
Yours truly,
Liberty Walton, Heritage Planner
